Question: Which courses, classes, or certification programs are expected if you are going to work as a Purchasing Management professional?

Answer: To work as a Purchasing Management Professional it is expected that you have some level of training.  This is not an area where an organization can afford for its employee to learn as they go.  It is important that you have learned some aspects of the profession.  At minimum have an understanding of the areas that the profession concentrates on to be successful within the organization.  It would be beneficial to take classes pertaining to purchasing, inventory control, manufacturing planning, introduction to IT, sales, and some finance/accounting classes.  These are areas that are dependent on the Purchasing Management professional’s performance.  Another way to get training is to study to acquire a certification in Purchasing Management.  The Purchasing Management Expert certification (PME) encompasses all of the areas listed above and gives the candidate the knowledge needed to become a successful Purchasing Management professional.
