Question: What sort of educational requirements do hiring firms look for in potential candidates applying for Purchasing Management positions?

Answer: Purchasing Management Professionals usually hold a bachelors degree in business, finance, supply chain management, or international business.  Their degree can be in many other areas but these appear to be the most popular.  There are some hiring managers that require a level of certification for the candidate to serve in certain positions such as Purchasing Manager, Supply Chain Manager, and Logistics Manager.  Taking the time to invest in obtaining a professional certification lets the hiring firm know you are serious about your career and willing to make an investment in keeping abreast of the changes and updates that may happen in the field of Purchasing.
