Question: What are the responsibilities of a Purchasing Management professional?

Answer: The major responsibility of a Purchasing Management professional is to ensure that all areas of the company are supported by purchasing products and services.  The goal is to acquire the best parts and services in a timely manner, at the highest quality level, for the most economical price.  The Purchasing Management professional is also responsible for vendor selection and management. This function can also be responsible for logistics and selecting freight carriers to get product to and from the facility.  There are some industries where the Purchasing Management professional has functions similar to a Project Manager. The responsibilities can vary from company to company and from industry to industry.
