Answer: Yes, education gives you the foundation of knowledge needed to be successful as a purchasing manager. There are many areas within an organization that a Purchasing Manager needs to have knowledge of and getting the proper level of education gives the Purchasing manager the training needed to understand these areas. For example, the function of Purchasing Management may also include being able to certify a supplier is capable of supporting the organizations efforts. This may require understanding their financial position, the level of technology (IT) they have, and their capacity. The proper educational background will train you in how to evaluate these areas and determine if the supplier if a good fit for your company’s needs.
