You will meet valuable contact through your work position in the industry and this is good and bad. The good part is you will make contacts in your particular industry. The bad part is you will only make contact in your particular industry. Sometimes your duties will require you to think outside your particular industry and it is good to have other contacts you can tap into. Networking with other professionals from other industries gives you a broader knowledge base and therefore a better support system.
