In the last decade, because purchasing has grown to be such of an integral part of the success of the organization, there has been an increasing demand for purchasing consultants. A consultant is usually someone with extensive experience in the field of purchasing management, procurement, inventory control, and materials management. The consultant will also have extensive knowledge of the financial impact purchasing has on an organizations ability to be profitable. Also growing more popular is telecommuting opportunities for purchasing management professionals. This is a very new concept and has not been embraced by many industries, (nor can it be functional).
