Question: Are Purchasing Management professionals independent workers, or do they work in teams?
Answer: The task of Purchasing Management can be performed in some cases as an independent worker and in others in teams. Usually if the Purchasing Management tasks are project based, teams are preferable. Working in a team environment helps to get input from multiple perspectives. Teams are usually within larger organizations that have the manpower and the financial resources to divide the functions of purchasing among team members. It also gives the ability to do more work pertaining to the project. The function can also be performed successfully as an independent worker. Usually this is when in a small organization. In smaller organizations, where the purchasing department is small and sometimes just one person, there may be heavy supplier involvement to assist the purchasing professional in getting the tasks completed.
